Melbourne retailer Quince introduces the bespoke handwoven luxury of London’s Eleanor Pritchard in her signature cutting-edge colourways.
London’s blanket queen Eleanor Pritchard has been welcomed into Quince’s artisan fold in what is a coup for discerning warmth seekers during Australia’s cooler months.
Quince’s Michelle Koop discovered Eleanor through her mother, who is a keen weaver, and instantly fell in love with her aesthetic, which has an urban, contemporary edge, while having its roots in vintage inspiration and traditional craftsmanship.
“What strikes me about Eleanor’s work is the extraordinary, gentle palettes and respectfully reinterpreted traditional British fabric patterns that come together in a very urban aesthetic for today,” she says.
“I am really excited to have secured the exclusive Australian agency of this brand and be able to introduce it to my clients and nationally through select retailers.”
Michelle has an appreciation for the bespoke and handmade, being an artisan printmaker herself. She also has a background in graphic design and passion for styling, so understands and looks for objects that exude the maker’s mark and offer something completely new while having the integrity of age-old processes.
“Eleanor designs and samples on a dobby loom in her small London studio, then has her work come to life under the expert eyes and hands of a passionate and skilled team in a small mill in Wales,” says Michelle.
“Her work embodies everything that Quince and I stand for, which is pushing the boundaries in a traditional artisan technique to create contemporary pieces that embody the spirit of the maker.”
Eleanor uses only 100 per cent Scottish wool, edges her pieces in blanket stitch and releases a new collection every year.
She has exhibited at Maison & Objet in Paris and Midcentury Modern in London and holds an open studio annually. Plus, her work has been featured in American Vogue.
The 2012 range includes: Scallop blanket in Robin’s Egg, Lemon Drop and Violet – each 215 x 225cm, $530; Uniform Stripe throw in Ink and Burnt Orange, $320; 405 Lines, 625 Lines, Optic, Westerly, Easterly, Narrow Gauge and Shingle throws in Lyme, Chesil and Climping – each 150 x 180cm, all $340.
