This week’s blog focuses on some beautiful ideas for outdoor dining. Whether your taste goes to the soft cottage look, French style, Asian influence or contemporary, the market seems to have something for everyone in table linen, serveware and table decoration.
Oilcloth makes a beautiful and practical return this summer. Part of the Vanessa Arbuthnott Collection is a range of lovely oilcloth-look, PVC-coated fabrics suitable for outdoor entertaining ideas. In fresh colours and designs, these coated fabrics are a practical addition to the pool and BBQ area.
These fabrics are ideal for outdoor tablecloths and runners, and can be teamed with serviettes in matching or coordinating cotton or linen union.

The original oil and vinegar container by Rafael Marquina (left), comprises a conical recipient with a spout for the liquid to glide down.
This sober and clear-cut design resolves the drip problem: it absorbs every single drip of oil or vinegar, does not stain the tablecloth and does not need a handle.
The Marquina 1961 oil container reinterprets an object of daily use, in this case from the Mediterranean tradition, to improve its performance and bring its lines up to date.
It is a clear example of how objects evolve under the aegis of design.
Available from KE-ZU, the conical, 200ml capacity, clear glass container has a funnel-shaped neck for easy filling. The spout has an opening to dose out the liquid and a base/stopper of brushed glass with a groove to catch the drops and allow air into the flask.
