Australia’s first 100% Bamboo Quilt

Mendip Silks has launched Australia’s first 100% bamboo quilt, combining the softness of the specially processed bamboo filling, with a totally bamboo fabric cover.

According to Mendip Silk’s owner, John Tulloch, bamboo is becoming an increasingly popular fibre for anyone who cares for the environment.

“The bamboo used in our quilts grows in unpolluted regions of China, with no impact on their National Forest Restoration Program,” said John.

“It is a prolific, quick growing plant, which uses no fertilisers or pesticides, requires no irrigation and produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.  The manufacturing process uses caustic soda, a common ingredient in soap, leaving no residues behind.

“Bamboo has natural anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties and is now being used for surgical dressings.  It is also being used in underwear & socks for its softness and because of its odour reducing properties.

“It's resistent to dustmite and mould making it an excellent choice for people with allergies.  Bamboo is three times more absorbant than cotton.” John said.
